Job Description

We are looking for a lawyer that has solid experience dealing with media content protection and anti-piracy matters.  This is a critical role in our client's organization to protect its intellectual property rights particularly in media content that is broadcast in China as well as a few other territories in APAC.

You must be highly organised and demonstrate an ability to work effectively as part of international team. An advanced work ethic including the ability to work with minimal supervision and guidance are essential.  

Key Responsibilities  

  • Responsible for all content protection and anti-piracy matters that arise in PRC, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
  • Work closely with the content protection team in the U.S. on content protection strategies and enforcement.
  • Co-ordinating investigations of priority targets and preparing reports on such investigations.
  • Manage junior team members providing digital media support and assisting with technical/Internet investigations.
  • Work closely with law enforcement, government agencies and important stakeholders.
  • Monitor and stay abreast of content protection developments and initiatives.
  • Advocate for favourable changes to relevant laws (particularly copyright laws) in PRC, Hong Kong and Taiwan to strengthen rights and enforcement action against content piracy.

Key requirements

  • PRC bar preferred.
  • At least 8 years of post-qualification experience including working on content protection and anti-piracy matters in China.  Experience of non-PRC matters (particularly in Hong Kong, Taiwan, US) preferred.
  • Educational background and/or prior employment experience in content protection strategy, law enforcement (high tech crime/Internet investigations), digital media. 
  • Understanding website analytics, illegal digital distribution models e.g streaming protocol technologies, social media piracy, and all forms of other popular forms of piracy. 
  • Law enforcement experience whilst not essential would be advantageous.
  • Experience and willingness to do commercial legal work e.g., content distribution agreements, content marketing agreements, would be advantageous.
  • Fluency in Mandarin and English (verbal and written).
