Christopher Gunson, Partner, AMERELLER 

Christopher Gunson is a partner based in the Dubai office. He represents numerous multinational companies on all aspects of business in the Middle East region. This work includes commercial transactions, strategic investments, joint ventures, and regulatory compliance.

He is fluent in Japanese and much of his practice involves representing and advising Japanese businesses on matters in the Middle East region.

Ignatius K. Hwang focuses his practice on energy, infrastructure and resources projects in Asia Pacific and the Middle East, particularly China, India, Southeast Asia and Australia.

As a fluent Arabic speaker, Jonathan frequently manages complex contentious matters in the region including arbitrations, local litigation, internal investigations, compliance reviews, and executive-level employment disputes. 

Pallav Shukla, Partner – Dispute Resolution, Trilegal 

Pallav Shukla focuses on white-collar crimes and investigations. In addition to commercial disputes, Pallav focuses on defense in anti-corruption and money laundering enforcement and debarment. He also has in-depth experience in pursuing civil and criminal remedies for IPR infringement, data theft; and financial and cyber-crimes. Pallav has strong trial credentials, both, in defense and private prosecution involving such cases. Raphael is the Head of the Corporate and Commercial practice. Having been in practice for 35 years, encompassing both international and local work, he has extensive experience in various areas notably Corporate and Commercial, Mergers and Acquisitions, and Information Technology Law.  
 
In 2017, he advised on a share sale transaction in GHL Systems Berhad to a London-based private equity fund Actis Stark which was identified by The Edge Malaysia as the Best M&A Deal of 2017. Anna Quah, Vice President, Legal, Asia Pacific Region, UPS 

Anna Quah is the Asia Pacific Legal Vice President for UPS, a global leader in logistics with headquarters in Atlanta, from which UPS serves more than 220 countries and territories worldwide. Anna was also a founding member and Chairperson of the UPS Women’s Leadership Development (“WLD”) in Asia Pac.

Prior to joining UPS, Anna practiced maritime and aviation law in Singapore for about 8 years in a boutique shipping law firm, where Anna also presented several papers on maritime law at international conferences organized by the International Bar Association.

Anna has been actively contributing towards the community – including spending almost four weeks in Lower East Side, New York City, supporting homeless individuals recovering from mental illnesses. David Sullivan, Legal Director, APAC, GroupM 

David is currently the Legal Director, APAC for GroupM (WPP's media investment arm). David has been an in-house lawyer in Australia and Singapore for the past 11 years and is a member of the Association of Corporate Counsel in Singapore. David has enjoyed a diverse career, having initially trained as a TMT lawyer with Baker McKenzie, working in the Firm’s Melbourne and Tokyo offices. Gavin Ingram is General Counsel Asia Pacific and Vice President Strategic Planning for Global Blue, an NYSE listed company. Gavin, who is based in Sydney, Australia, also acts as Company Secretary for Global Blue’s APAC entities and also has responsibility for New Markets across APAC. Prior to Global Blue, Gavin was Legal Director Asia for Lawyers on Demand. Prior to LoD, Gavin was General Counsel Asia for the Australian listed company BlueScope Steel. In this role, Gavin was awarded the leading in-house counsel award in Asia-Pacific by AsiaLaw in 2007.

She is a UK-trained Barrister with 13 years of Post qualification experience. Helen attended the University of Sheffield, the University of Tilburg, and the University of Law in which she obtained her law degrees. Helen is a TedX speaker and has delivered over 50+ talks globally including at IBA, IPBA, and in the startup/investor scene. She featured in the ALB MENA Super 50 lawyers for 2021. 

Karen Ong, Head, Group Corporate Legal, Bursa Malaysia 

Karen currently heads the Group Corporate Legal division at Bursa Malaysia Bhd, the Malaysian stock exchange, and oversees all commercial legal matters at the exchange.  She is passionate about in-house counsel acting as valuable business partners and contributing towards the development of the capital market.  She often seeks out opportunities to share knowledge and contribute to the legal community.  Karen holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of Melbourne.

Maija Burtmanis, General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer, Zuellig Pharma 

Maija Burtmanis (LLB/BSc, LLM) is an Australian qualified Legal / Compliance Life Sciences Executive, whose career has primarily been focused on the international markets. She has worked as a senior lawyer and compliance professional for the last 18 years for companies such as Pfizer, Novartis, and Shire BioPharma. Recently, Maija was appointed the General Counsel and CCO of Zuellig Pharma, which has the distinction of working with many Life Sciences companies in the Distribution, Cold chain supply (Covid Vx), Clinical Reach, and Data Analytics fields.
Throughout her career, Maija has worked with government representatives, industry groups, healthcare professionals, and external advisers in addressing a range of issues that have impacted Life Sciences companies that innovate produce and promote the state of the art pharmaceutical products, medical devices, vaccines, diagnostic tools as well as over-the-counter consumer products.

Maree Myerscough, General Counsel, Asia Pacific, Aquila Capital

Maree is General Counsel, Asia Pacific for Aquila Capital. She has broad transactional experience in corporate, commercial and financing transactions, with a focus on renewable energy and infrastructure projects. In 2018, Maree was honoured to win the “General Commercial” award at the Global Counsel Awards at an event in New York and was included in ALB’s In-house Counsel “40 Under 40” List for Asia Pacific in 2018. In 2021 Maree was recognised in Transition Economist’s TE100 Women of the Energy Transition (Renewables category) and short-listed for an FT Innovative Lawyers Asia-Pacific 2021 award, including for her work on pro bono projects, community service initiatives, mentoring and service leadership within the legal community. Maree has lived and worked in Singapore for over 14 years (originally from Australia).

Rhonda Hare, General Counsel – Asia Pacific, AccorHotels 

Rhonda joined AccorHotels in November 2017 as General Counsel – Asia Pacific.  The focus of her role is to support the various business units across the Asia Pacific - including providing legal advice on development, operational, and compliance matters. 

Rhonda has over 25 years of experience as an in-house and private practice lawyer working across the Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas. Previous positions include being a Partner at Ashurst LPP (formerly Blake Dawson) and as a member of the Legal Division at the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.

She is currently Senior Vice President, Global Legal at a major Asia-Pacific focused international healthcare company, where she acts as the legal lead for global M&A, capital markets, and healthcare tech, and helps to fulfill the organization’s purpose of providing affordable and accessible care for all in the Asia Pacific. She also manages strategy for complex dispute-related matters, having originally "cut her teeth" as a litigator before moving to the corporate transactional world. 

Swati Singh Baghel, Vice President (Legal & Compliance), Blackstone 

Swati Singh Baghel is a Vice President in the Legal & Compliance Department. She recently relocated to Singapore from the Mumbai office. Since joining Blackstone in 2018, she has been involved in legal & compliance matters for Blackstone’s businesses in India and South East Asia, including Singapore. Prior to Blackstone, Ms. Baghel has worked at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, in its Private Equity and Mergers & Acquisitions Group, and in-house at an Indian diversified conglomerate, in Mumbai. Ms. Baghel received a BA.LL.B. (Hons.) from National Law Institute University, India, where she graduated at the top of her class and was a member of the NLIU Law Review.

Tarun Samtani, Data Protection Officer, International SOS 

Tarun is a Senior Privacy Practitioner with a background in Data Security, Privacy and Data Protection. Formerly the Data Protection Officer for a UK high street retail business ‘Boden’, he was responsible for leading Global Privacy programme that spanned across the UK and Europe, US and Asia-Pacific. Most recently he was the Global Privacy Manager for Qantas Group that includes Qantas Airlines, Jetstar Airlines and Qantas Loyalty.

He brings over two decades of experience working in various industries such as Retail, Telecoms, Leisure, Airlines, E-commerce and Banking across global organisations. He is a member and Chair of the International Association of Privacy Professionals KnowledgeNet Chapter. He has also served as Advisory Board Member for a few startups working in AI, Cyber and Privacy and has been interviewed by various UK publications including BBC radio. He regularly addresses the global audience at various international conferences on these topics.

His specialisation includes operationalising Privacy, working with various international Privacy legislations across EU, Asia Pacific and CIS countries, building & leading progressive, pragmatic and sustainable Data Privacy programmes. With strong business acumen, he has the ability to bridge the gap between technical, privacy and legal landscapes. He currently holds various certifications in Information Security and Data Privacy (ISC2 CISSP, ISACA CISM & IAPP CIPM).

Yosr Hamza, Director, Legal Affairs | Middle East, Gartner 

Yosr is a bilingual multi-award-winning experienced legal counsel with both private practice and in-house background. She is admitted to the Egyptian Bar.

During her career, Yosr held various positions in global international law firms in the region allowing her to gain significant regional experience in contracts, commercial, corporate, compliance, employment, and a wide range of general legal areas. She is currently leading and managing the legal and compliance matters across the Middle East in Gartner. Embracing Gartner’s Principles of Independence and Objectivity, Yosr also supports the Gartner Office of the Ombudsman in the Middle East, a team that is established to openly and assertively address issues of analytical independence, accuracy, and integrity. Yosr was the first locally based legal counsel in the region and has played a key part in establishing and developing Gartner’s legal team in the Middle East. With such experience, she also has broad experience in risk management, corporate governance, and compliance. Yosr is passionate about the empowerment of women and further the advancement of women's rights to achieve gender equity.
