Having successfully ran for the past six years, Asian Legal Business is proud to be organizing this year’s ALB Hong Kong Anti-Corruption and Compliance Forum 2023 on 16 March 2023 (live and in-person). This annual forum gathers legal experts, in-house compliance professionals and government leaders together to discuss pertinent issues, corruption investigations and enforcement trends across Hong Kong and the Greater China.

Sonali joined Hong Kong Lawyer in December 2020 where she is responsible for all aspects of the journal, from commissioning and writing to editing and also overseeing the production process, along with the website and newsletter. Prior to joining Hong Kong Lawyer, Sonali worked at LexisNexis as a Commissioning Editor where she was in charge of all corporate law related offerings and products. At her time there, she oversaw a number of notable titles such as the Hong Kong Securities Law Handbook, Hong Kong Company Law Handbook, amongst others. Sonali has a Masters in Journalism from the University of Hong Kong and a LLB from the University of Nottingham.

Based in Hong Kong, Niall is the Group Chief Compliance Officer for FWD Group Holdings Limited. Niall has over 25 years of Risk and Compliance experience with Ford Motor Credit Co, Prudential Plc, Eastspring Investments and FWD and is a Fellow of the International Compliance Association (ICA). Niall has worked in pan-Asian roles for the past 16 years and in his current role Niall is accountable for the effectiveness of FWD Group’s Compliance and Operational Risk Management Frameworks which includes responsibility for Anti-Bribery and Corruption under a wider Financial Crime Compliance programme. Niall is also a member of the Global Insurance Chief Compliance Officers Forum (CCO Forum) where he chairs the forums Conduct Risk Working Group.

Sören Seitz is the Deputy Global Compliance Chief for Manulife and is based in Hong Kong. Oversight responsibilities include Asia Segment Compliance, Global Distribution Compliance, Manulife’s Ethics Hotline, FATCA and CRS Tax Compliance, Global Compliance Training, and Shared Services Compliance.

Prior to joining Manulife, Sören worked at Goldman Sachs for 14 years in a wide range of progressively senior compliance roles, including Private Wealth Management, Asset Management, Shared Services, Regulatory and Financial Crimes Compliance in New York, Hong Kong, Bangalore, Zurich and Frankfurt.

A recipient of the Goldman Sachs George E. Doty scholarship, Sören holds graduate degrees in business administration from Helsinki School of Economics, Tsinghua University and INSEAD.

Sören is a frequent presenter on equity, diversity and inclusion topics and is a member of Manulife’s Global DEI Council and the Women’s Foundation Male Allies leadership council. He was named a 2022 Break the ceiling touch the sky® Male Champion for Gender Equality, a 2021 Yahoo OUTstanding Top 50 LGTB+ Ally Executive, and a 2021 Community Business LGBT+ Ally Executive award winner.

Sasha Kalb, Director, Financial Crimes Legal, Barclays 48x48, linkedin icon

Sasha is the Director for Financial Crimes Legal at Barclays Asia.  In that role, Sasha advises clients on a broad-spectrum of Financial Crime matters that affect the business on a day-to-day basis.  Prior to joining Barclays, Sasha worked at American Express Global Business Travel, where she served as Chief Compliance Officer for the company’s international operations. 

Sasha has worked as in-house counsel in APAC for the last 10 years, focusing on areas of law such as economic sanctions, anti-corruption, anti-money laundering and data privacy.  Sasha regularly supports thought leadership in the industry in APAC on financial crime developments impacting the region. 

Sasha received her BA from Columbia University and her law degree from Brooklyn Law School, both in New York City.  She now lives in Hong Kong with her husband and two children.

Vincent is the Chief Counsel – Asia Pacific for AECOM.  Previously, he was a Partner from the Construction team of International Firm, Holman Fenwick Willan.  Vincent is a specialist construction and dispute resolution lawyer with nearly 20 years of post-admission experience in New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory, Western Australia and Hong Kong SAR. His principal areas of practice include construction and engineering (front end and back end), dispute resolution, administrative law and ethics and compliance. Whilst at AECOM, Vincent has also acted as the APAC Chief Compliance Officer responsible for administering AECOM’s ethics and compliance policies and systems and carrying out internal investigations with an Asia-Pacific focus

Mr. Alexander Shaik is an Equity Partner and General Counsel of ADM Capital.

He has 25 years legal and commercial experience working on corporate and structured finance transactions.  Mr. Shaik has been involved in over 150 innovative private credit and equity transactions in most of the key Emerging Markets across Asia and Eastern Europe, including Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Bulgaria, Croatia, Japan, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, Australia and New Zealand.

Before joining ADM Capital in 2005, Alexander Shaik was employed in the Hong Kong office of the US law firm, Sidley Austin, and he has also worked with the Tokyo office of UK magic circle firm, Allen & Overy.

Mr Shaik’s role involves supervising legal, structuring, execution and regulatory issues arising in respect of the ADM Capital Group’s private credit investments in the Asia-Pacific region

Maggie Qiu is the Head of Sanctions of Greater China and North Asia at Standard Chartered Bank, which has the responsibilities managing the Sanctions and BIS Compliance Program for the region. Prior to joining Standard Chartered, she was the Regional Program Director, Global Financial Crimes Compliance for Bank of America Merrill Lynch, and was responsible for regulatory exams, audit, regulatory changes, compliance Monitoring & Testing, issue management, Policy and Program, Risk Assessments, and trainings for 12 jurisdictions in the Asia Pacific region.

Before relocated to Hong Kong on January 2014, Ms. Qiu was the Head of FCC & MLRO for Bank of American China and led its Anti-Money Laundering and Economic Sanctions efforts for all branches in China. She had been in that role since 2010, and previously, Ms. Qiu worked for Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) in Bank of America’s Global Headquarter in North Carolina. Before joining Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Ms. Qiu also held various risk management roles in Wachovia, and Wells Fargo based in US. Ms. Qiu received her master’s degree from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, USA. She is a frequent speaker at international seminars and conferences for topics related to Financial Crimes Compliance, Sanctions, regulatory compliance, Fintech and digital assets. Maggie is also an early investor in Bitcoin.

Adam Au, council Member & Honorary Treasurer, Institute of Big Data Governance 48x48, linkedin icon

Adam Au is a general counsel and data protection officer of a Hong Kong-listed healthcare service provider with operations in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. He has worked at international law firms as well as as an in-house counsel at private equity funds, family office and other financial institutions. His experience ranges from private equity, M&A and other capital markets transactions to data privacy and other regulatory compliance across the Asia-Pacific region. His primary focus is on emerging technology, venture capital, data protection, and healthcare. Adam is also an experienced data protection officer with qualifications from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and ISACA including CIPP (Europe), CIPP (Asia), CIPT, CIPM and CDPSE. He has been elected as a Fellow of Information Privacy under IAPP.

Adam holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and East Asian Studies from Brown University, a Bachelor and Master of Arts in Law from the University of Oxford, and a Master of Business Administration from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a Sloan Fellow.

Kelvin F.K. Low is Professor of Law at the National University of Singapore and an Executive Committee member of the Centre for Technology, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence & the Law (TRAIL) and a Fellow at the EW Barker Centre for Law & Business. His research interest spans the field of private law but with a particular interest in property, broadly defined. He has published internationally with leading journals such as the American Journal of Comparative Law, the International & Comparative Law Quarterly, Legal Studies, Lloyd’s Maritime and Commercial Law Quarterly, the Law Quarterly Review, the Melbourne University Law Review, and the Modern Law Review. He is a co-author (together with Michael Bridge, Louise Gullifer, and Gerard McMeel) of the 2nd and 3rd editions of The Law of Personal Property, and co-author (together with Tang Hang Wu) of the 3rd and 4th editions of Tan Sook Yee’s Principles of Singapore Land Law. His works have been cited by the courts in Australia, Canada, England and Wales, Hong Kong SAR, Malaysia, New Zealand, and Singapore as well as law commissions and law reform bodies in Australia, England and Wales, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland, and Singapore

Kelvin’s research and/or responses have been cited by the English Law Commission in a number of projects related to digital assets, including (i) Electronic trade documents, (ii) Smart contracts, and (iii) Digital assets. He has also participated in expert discussions or conferences related to digital assets organised by the Monetary Authority of Singapore and the International Organization of Securities Commissions, and is in the midst of preparing a report on the implications of digital assets for the Advisory Council on The 1980 Vienna Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods
