ALB Korea Law Awards 2015 will be held on November 13, and will recognize the excellence and outstanding achievements of Korea's leading law firms and in-house legal teams as well as the top deals and dealmakers of 2014-2015.
The third annual Korean Law Awards will once again attract Korea's most influential solicitors, in-house counsel, investment bankers, judiciary and CEOs, who will assemble to celebrate with the winners as they accept their awards on stage. The event is the culmination of the months of intensive research that preceded this important event. Winner information remained confidential until the awards ceremony itself, where they will be revealed over a gala black-tie dinner.
Across Asia, the ALB Law Awards series is well established as the most important event on the legal industry calendar and we look forward to welcoming you in Korea in 2015.

Daehwan (Larry) JO is President of the In-House Counsel Forum (IHCF) which was founded in 1998. Larry is Vice President, Compliance Officer/Senior Legal Counsel and Chief Consumer Officer of MetLife Korea. He was Compliance Officer of MetLife Asia Pacific in Hong Kong, leading and coordinating general legal, compliance, regulatory, risk management support. Prior to joining MetLife, Larry was an attorney at Bae, Kim & Lee, and his practicing covered a wide range of areas including energy, IT and Finance. In particular, he focused on domestic and overseas corporate transactions, corporate restructuring and M&A, foreign investment as well as joint venture establishment and operation. He is a member of New York and Korea bars, and part of a panel of arbitrators at Korean Commercial Arbitration Board. He is also a licensed patent agent and tax accountant.

ALB Korea Law Awards 2015
GENERAL GUIDELINES
1. | All nominations must be written in the ALB nomination form. The same must be submitted on or before September 25, 2015. ALB will not accept entries written in any other forms. |
2. | Work includes any transactions/deals/projects completed, cases handled, disputes settled and other legal services provided within the organisation or otherwise. |
3. | Entries to any categories must have been completed or announced within the period of 1 June 2014 to 31 May 2015. |
4. | Leading law firms and in-house legal departments are invited by e-mail to nominate across various categories. |
5. | Documents supplementary to the information provided in the nomination form may be submitted within the nomination period. No supplementary information will be accepted after the nomination deadline. |
6. | Clients or contact persons provided in the nomination form may be contacted by ALB, without prior notice to the nominating organisation. It is advisable that only the names of clients whose consent for this purpose has been obtained are listed in the nomination form. |
7. | Self-nominations by organizations or individuals are accepted. |
8. | Nomination forms are strictly private and confidential and are shared only by the event organizer (ALB) and the judging panel. |
9. | The ALB team passes the nomination data to the external panel of judges, who examine the information and vote. The judges’ votes are aggregated to calculate the winner in each category. |
10. | The judges' votes are final. |
11. | Any judges involved in a specific deal or category are disqualified from voting for a related award category. |
COMPOSITION OF JUDGING PANEL
The judging panel consists of the general panel and the special expertise panel. It is composed of approximately 25-30 reputable members from the legal academia, in-house teams, law firms, legal associations or business leagues, whose identities are kept confidential prior to the awarding ceremony.
JUDGING PROCESS
The panel of judges is given one week to evaluate the accomplishments of nominees based on a research summary provided by ALB. The judges select the top three finalists for every category. A score allocated by a judge to a finalist with which or with whom he has an apparent conflict of interest is considered void.
The finalist in every category who obtains the highest score wins.

Specific Guidelines
1. | To qualify for deal categories, a deal must have significant Korea element. "Korea element" would mean any of the following: |

2. | A nominating organization may submit up to three (3) deals within each of the first four deal categories. |
3. | The winner of any deal categories automatically becomes a finalist for the Korea Deal of the Year, and the finalist obtaining the highest score wins. |

1. | Size - the volume of the deal in USD, the minimum financial value of the deal require for individual deal category: |

Specific Guidelines
1. | All law firms with physical office in Korea are qualified for any firm categories. |
2. | Key work highlights and third party recognition, in the relevant practice area. This covers work leading up to 31st May 2015, but can include law firms who opened in Korea AFTER June 1st 2014 |
3. | Boutique Law Firm of the Year - Applicable only to Korean law firms which have no more than 40 fee earners. |
4. | Best Overseas Practice Law Firm of the Year - A Korean law firms who has overseas practice. |
5. | Deal Firm of the Year - Law firms with physical offices in Korea with at least 10 completed cross-border transactions (from across all practice areas) from 1 June 2014 through 31 May 2015, with a minimum deal size of US$200 million. |
6. | Managing Partner of the Year - Applicable only to managing partners who are based in Korea; we will only accept one nomination from each firm. A third-party nomination is considered only when the third-party nominee's firm has not nominated for the category. |
7. | Korea Law Firms of the Year - The winner of any firm categories automatically becomes a finalist for the Korea Law Firm of the Year, and the finalist obtaining the highest score wins. |
